Brad850
So every picture I can find, the bushing is in this orientation with the majority of the rubber support on the top and bottom... Shouldn't it be spun 90 degrees? This way the rocking motion of the engine is supported most..
Keaton85
Sure, doesn't really matter. I've never used those mounts anyway.

jschaefer7406
That is the correct orientation. In fact, there is a front and rear to it as well. If you look close, the bolt hole is more toward the front of the car . Hope this helps, Joe
Serge
If you look at the factory bushing, you will see an arrow drawn on it. It should point up. In this photo you can clearly see the arrow on top: http://volvo850wagon.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/dscn7670.jpg Also, to reduce vibration try this: Put in the bolt and tighten it, then loosen it up just a bit so there is some movement. Have someone go inside the car, start the engine, and with the brakes on put it into reverse. This will cause the engine to move a bit. Now tighten the top bolt to spec. Car can be put back into park. I did this and it eliminated a lot of idle vibration.
Brad850
Shit. I have it with the arrow pointing into the firewall. Any idea how big of a deal it is?

Rod'sT-5
It will work fine, just transmit more engine vibration into the car
cn90
The reason is: engineers design the voids in engine mount at 3 and 9 o'clock positions so: - The engine rocks back and forth and "pushes" into the void zone to absorb the vibration (BLUE arrows). Think "leaf spring" as in a pick up truck absorbing shock. - The center of the mount is fixed to the firewall and thus chassis (RED arrow). This is the stationary part of the design. I have used both Poly and Lemforder. Lemforder is stock, OEM and only costs $10 but a pain to replace. Lemfore mount lasts about 50K miles. Poly lasts forever but there is more vibration at idle, especially in automatic trans cars. RE: arrow pointing to firewall, it is OK, leave it alone. There is much bigger stuff to worry about. This is a non-issue.
Brad850
Yea I don't like the poly at all. I pushed my new mount in diagonal(kinda) as of yesterday and vibration is now non existent. My car finally feels nice again.

Mikesvagen
I swapped out my poly mount for a factory mount today. I could not take the vibration any longer.
