Tyler T5R
I'm looking into getting my 16t turbo rebuilt and maybe having some upgrades done at the same time, such as a billet compressor wheel and switch to angled flange exhaust housing. One turbo rebuilder suggested he could "clip the turbine wheel to a 15 degree for exhaust flow". Is that a good and worthwhile thing to do? Any downside? Average cost for that service? Thanks for the advice
TIZIO AKA 1 HND MEC
Angled flange+ 3" DP bring you more benefits (more flow and lower EGT) than just clip the wheel fins! Hope this help.
EricF
I think Ben Kaplan had his turbine wheel clipped with his 19T that was in his beige wagon. Probably not a bad idea if upgrading the compressor. The other alternative would be a new turbine wheel targeted for higher flow from Kinugawa or ARD... Tightmopedman9
On a 16t, I would say not worth it.
TryingBe
Clipped turbine wheel causes slower spool up but potentially more horsepower up top, if the compressor wheel will support it. Not really worth it on a 16T.
