DoriDori
Haven't posted at VS in a while. Been busy with an E36 project. Anyway, thought this little projector might be worth sharing with y'all: my wife drives our 1995 850 and I've been bit by the headlight retrofit bug. So naturally I had to modify the 850's headlights. So far here is where I am: 2001 audi s4 xenon headlights( bulbs+ballast) $50 (gutted goods and sold bare housings for $20) Spare Volvo 850 headlights $50 9006 xenon harness $10 Morimoto canbus harness Free (left overs from retrofits) eBay 35w ballast $30 eBay D2s to amp adapters Lexan plates Free Morimoto Tsx-r clear lens $45 Rough draft of mounting plate Mock up usin existing holes in bottom of reflector bowl Mocked projector into position The cut off and flicker pattern is beautiful with the clear lens. Even sharper than my fx-r 3.0's. More pics and updates to come.
Kevin.
are you going to de-flute the low beam side of the headlight lens?
DoriDori
are you going to de-flute the low beam side of the headlight lens? That's the plan. I'll get a auto glass or machine shop to do it for me. I've cut holes in glass before; not fun. Or I'll use some more lexan to make my own plastic clear lens. I need to read up on that more. Ghost Shadow
why do you need a mounting plate? you just trim the bezel and seat the light against the back and use some bolts to mount the light to the bezel
DoriDori
why do you need a mounting plate? you just trim the bezel and seat the light against the back and use some bolts to mount the light to the bezel Because this is an oem projector. I've used the first projector in your pic, the mini h1, and yes, those can be centered through the bulb socket. The mini H1 can be installed into nearly anything. The bulb plate on the back unscrews leaving a 1" or so threaded rod to thread through the existing 9006 bulb socket. This projector was not designed to be installed so easily. Google "valeo d2s xenon projector" and you will get a better picture of how these projectors mount. The mini H1 would be very simple to install but I wanted to try something new and I found these at the junkyard. Combined with the tsx-r clear projector lens, I'm very pleased with the output. Also, The mounting plates use the two holes left from the 9006 bulb shield. They are level and point the projector in the right position. Making the process of aiming the beams super easy. Ghost Shadow
the only mini H1 is in the high beam bucket of the second set. the mini cooper one is a mini d2s and the other one is a FXR. Oh you said OEM projectore retrofit... Oh ok. then here, OEM BMW 3" projectors aka Hella E55 well below are your pictures of ones i did on my headlights, yes ANOTHER quad setup. "This projector was not designed to be installed so easily. Google "E55 hella projectors" and you will get a better picture of how these projectors mount." LOL again why do you need to waste the time to make a plate and cut sooo much of the back bezel out? "Also, The mounting plates use the two holes left from the 9006 bulb shield. They are level and point the projector in the right position. Making the process of aiming the beams super easy. " aiming the beams? you aim the beams like normal, YOU dont aim it by move the projector inside the bezel. the projector is supposed to be permantly mounted, level and secure to the bezel inside the headlamp so when its sealed you use the OEM levelers. If you are doing it that way, you probably dont have a idea on how to do this with out the car, without anything but the headlamps? my quads, version 2.
