jfley
Ok Folks , It has been some time since my last post/question and I am hoping for the best here. I have a 2000 S80 2.9 with about 140k on it, I recently changed out all of the suspension parts with exception of the wheel bearings and the axle shafts. Now the axle shafts and wheel bearings not being part of the suspension I know but while I was in there I noticed some grease had spun out of a crack on the drivers side CV Boot at the bearing so I know I need to swap that out, but the question is this, I now have a low humming and slight vibration eminating from the passenger side. Upon visual inspection no spun out grease or cracks, but if I am to change one why not do both? However I do want to be sure I am not just throwing parts at this. Secondly, is my car a type that has the viscous drive axle on the passenger side or not? It is only a two wheel drive car. So before purchasing parts if anyone thinks the humming is from the other side then both should go warranting the question about viscous. Also any opinion on the change out of both wheel bearings would be interesting too! Thanks as usual, you all are the best and have always been there for me! Thank you! mune237
Huh, viscous axle? Don't believe so, but I guess you have to verify
floggingmike
Viscous couplings are on the AWD models up until 2005. I don't think I've heard of any sort of viscous axle or anything with the exception of the european M59 manual transmission with a viscous coupling "LSD". Soo I wanna say that you don't have a "viscous axle" to worry about. Just my .02.
jschaefer7406
Viscous couplings are on the AWD models up until 2005. Viscous coupler was only used on AWD cars up to '02. All '03- cars were Haldex . In any case, he's not referring to an AWD car, but a '00 S80. To answer his question, some early S80 T6 models had a viscous coupler built into the right axle: Top axle is without, bottom has the viscous. Being the OP has a 2.9 and not a T6, I'd assume the non-viscous axle is what is needed . Hope this helps, Joe

sjmcarz
Joe is correct, early S80 T6's had the coupling, works like a limited slip. 2.9's did not.
jfley
Oh you guys are good! I took a look at my axle shaft and I don't have that extra coupling! So it must be the Non Viscous.......FCP seems to have the best deals on pricing....any other thoughts? And of course, thank you all so much, as usual you all come through AGAIN!
