[2003 C70] Adding Back Seat Speakers

hi,

my '03 c70 has 11 speakers with dolby prologic and center speaker. But...

It has no back seat speakers [i know it was an option]

sooo I want to add these 2 woofers.

on the diagram we can see that the door speakers [number 10] looks the same as back seat speakers [number 20] , plugs look the same :)

I have 2 woofers [from doors], i will buy a button to turn on/off speakers. the wiring is on its place.

and now questions:

1. Did anyone add OEM back seat speakers to C70?

2. If i will add 2 woofers and button to turn on/off speakers- will it work?

3. Or do I need crossovers [number 23]. If so- what for?

Don't know if this takes your topic on a tangent. If so, I'm sorry.

I don't have those speakers either. One of my projects for next year will be to replace or upgrade the speakers, and add those woofers behind the seats. Also to add crossovers and other things to improve clarity. My question is, are thise woofers you are talking about plug-and-play, or is it a different amp setup?

For those interested:

The subwoofers were only offered for the C70 convertible, but they can also be installed in the C70 coupé. All mounting points are there from the factory, no drilling needed.

On paper the system is "plug'n'play", but the crossovers are needed. They are the connection point between the subwoofers and the rest of the system and also supply the subwoofers with the necessary signals.

C70 convertibles come with a special backseat console trim that already has a hole for the subwoofer off switch. Usually it is blocked of by a grey plastic bit which can be removed and the switch installed. The coupé versions have a backseat console trim without such a hole.

Convertibles already have all the wiring in place, don't know about the coupés but I imagine they don't.

From what I understand the subwoofers were only meant for cars with the 4x100W amp. Most C70 have this amp, but a smaller 4x60W was also available. So check first.

Also the door speakers are different from the subwoofers.

Thanks for the info. I know my coupe is wired for it, but not sure about which amp I have installed because I've never pulled the panel in the 6 years I've had this car.. I'm guessing the 4x100 since I have the 901 with dolby center speaker. Haven't seen the lesser amp with that setup before.

  • 1 month later...

from what i know so far:

- coupes have no wiring

- I think crossovers are needed only to switch woofers on/off

- door speakers are exactly same as the subwoofers, only difference is plug. I checked their parameters on dunaudio website. :)

next week everything will be clear cause I'm starting this project.
