(n)A-GAME
Almost a year ago, when I went to reverse out of a parking space, one of the rear wheels was locked up and the car wouldn't budge. With some persuading I was able to get the car to move again. The problem has not resurfaced. VS diagnosed it as a piece of the handbrake falling off and getting stuck somewhere in the brake rotor, and I think that was probably the problem. I never took anything apart to verify given that the problem seemed to resolve itself. Fast forward to last week. I was driving the car and pulling normally (forward in) to a parking spot. While the car was turning, there was a "thud-thud-thud-thud" (sounds periodic, frequency increased with speed) coming from what feels like the rear of the car or the AWD driveline. It only happens at low speeds (i.e., a steeply banked curve freeway onramp did not produce the problem). It seems to only happen when making a 90-degree (or more) front turn. It has not gone away. My initial thought is that this is something to do with that (or another) broken piece of handbrake getting stuck somewhere again, but I don't know. The car is due for new brakes anyways, but I wonder if this is a hub or something else I am overlooking. Could it be a rear hub? Axle? The bump feeling (and the sound) definitely feel like they are coming from the rear of the car. It's definitely not up front. Any ideas appreciated! Tyler T5R
Based on previous issue and what you have now, you need to disassemble and inspect the rear brakes and parking brake ASAP. This could get worse suddenly and cause an accident and or big damage to hub/knuckle/brakes/wheels. If it's not the brakes, look into how to test viscous coupler. WayAway
Sounds like the drive shaft. Mine dose this as well. Try shimming it
