jschaefer7406
Hello all, Hoping a few tuners can chime in here. Have a '00 S70 AWD, running a 16T and blues. Have had an annoying vacuum oscillation at idle for a while now: '?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent>> I really doubt it's the ECM, as the tune was written in 2009 and has been FLAWLESS. Being an easy test though, I may install the clone I have here and see what happens... My questions are, will the fuel trims be able to adapt far enough to run the blues on a tune meant for oranges? If so, will it take long to adapt? Don't want to burn the cat or anything with too much extra fuel ... Thanks guys, Joe
Tightmopedman9
Why would you even do that? The fuel trims will adapt the blues to run the same as the oranges; when the fuel trims become set there will be no difference in maximal fuel flow. jschaefer7406
Thanks for the reply. Did you read the post? I'm not trying to gain anything. I'm simply considering installing the stock ECM to see if the oscillation and surging continue with that one as well. Again, doubt it's an ECM issue causing the oscillation, but want to rule it out... As for the fuel trims adapting, that's what I'm hoping to find out. I know they can only adjust so far before a DTC is set, so I'm not sure if it'll be able to dial the blues back far enough before setting a DTC . Tightmopedman9
Oh, sorry I just skimmed it. I would say changing the ECU is not a good way to test. The injector calibration will come into play and will make tracking down the problem more difficult. If the car ran without this problem with the current ECU in the past, but doesn't now, the ECU is not the fault. The ECU files don't change unless it somehow became corrupted due to age, in which case your car wouldn't run. Just unplug the ECU to reset it and see what that does. jschaefer7406
Thanks man. Have reset several times, just not sure what else to test. Have swapped the MAF, etc and have checked several times for leaks and found none. Sure ACTS like a leak, but be darned if I can find one . Are you pretty familiar with live values for ME7, or do you mostly work with 4.4? Was hoping you'd be one to reply, as you have lots of good knowledge Thanks, Joe
sjmcarz
An ETM going out or dirty will give you a fluctuating idle. Have you tried removing it and carefully cleaning it? That worked for me a few times.
jschaefer7406
Thanks for the reply . Tried cleaning the original, same symptoms. Then it was replaced in October 2012, has approx. 15k miles on it. Did it when the ETM was new also . Thanks for the suggestion though, keep em coming Joe
