1998 Remote

1998 S70 GLT

Picked up a remote off of ebay for $17. It has the exact same numbers on the back as the remote that I have.

I set up an appt. with the dealer to make it work with my car and they said it may not work if I didn't have the PIN number for the remote.

I thought the pin # was car specific not remote specific.

HELP!

Thanks

Thanks Rich,

I'm going in on Fri. to get the motronic update and figured I would have the remote programmed at the same time. When I talked to the dealer on the phone the person on the phone said they may not be able to do it without the pin for the remote, but to bring it in and they would see what they could do........Hopefully the tech knows better????

I really wish I could find a good Volvo tech in the south Jersey area for things like this.

Also, is there anyway to verify that the motronic update is indeed done? I guess I am not very trusting of my local dealers.

Guests should not be allowed to post unless they join! I'm allways posting under guest by mistake!

I bought an additional remote for my 99 S80 and a remote for my 98 S70 from e-bay. Good price about 15 bucks. I now need to find out how to program them for my cars. My local dealer won't do it unless I buy it from them at $130.00. Can anyone help?? The dealer told me to use it as a paperweight!! :o

e-bay has hundreds of these remotes for 8 to 15 dollars each. Are hundreds of people going to get ripped off because the remotes cannot be programmed???

I just talked to another dealer and they are going to program my remotes.

I guess you can get the dealer to do the programming. I called my local dealer and told him other dealers were able to program my remotes and they said to bring it down that they will do it. This is after they told me yesterday to use them as paper weights! My local dealer is Merrimack Volvo in Manchester NH.

Hmm. I have a 1993 850GLT. I watched them "program" the my keyless remotes. It was turn the ignition on/off (w/o starting car) 5 times. Then press all the remotes. This allows the keyless entry system learn the key fobs. Perhaps it is different on later models. Hopefully this is right. It was 6 years ago :).

Hello Drew:

I have a '98 V70T5.  What's the deal with the motronic update.  What? Why?  How much?

Thanks,

Jonathan

Don't think it has anything to do with your T5. It is an idle "issue" with the GLT LPT's with auto's. Also known as "skip and dip" on brickboard.
