Pa Tint Laws?

Recommended Posts

Pro-tip: Legal or not, tinted windows all go down, interior lights on, during a stop. Allows the officer to see in the car clearly. They don't appreciate surprises.

Interior lights on sure, but I'm not going to do more than crack my window, you don't need to all the way open to talk to me.

Perhaps. But aside from weather concerns, that's just being a dick. You're expecting the officer to raise their voice to communicate with you, and now they have to listen more carefully for your replies against a background of wind and road noise. You're also raising suspicion.

You forgot to also leave your hands on the steering wheel where they can see them...

I didn't forget, I just didn't think it was relevant. But since we're on the topic, passengers better keep their hands on their thighs and mouths shut for the duration or you're walking home.

We're talking about Howard here. He lives by the Cruzer rules of the road. ;)

They always raise their voice anyway, especially the staties... I think they had Samuel L Jackson do a training seminar. But, no, you do not need more than a 1 inch gap to carry on a normal conversation. If they want more, they're planning on assaulting you. The police are not your friend, they're not there to protect and serve, they're there to intimidate and steal and they have basically no oversight or consequences for their actions.

I understand that some of them are like that. And do a great disservice to their coworkers. But it's a huge stretch to say that rolling down the window down to have a simple conversation means that they are going to assault you.

Unfortunately some bitter ones, and some simple minded ones go with the drill sergeant routine as a way to maintain authority. But I've met a few who had the finesse to maintain authority without puffing their chest.

Go into a situation with that mindset and you'll get what you give..

I find it funny how those who are angry and hate cops are the ones who constantly get shit.. Seems pretty obvious to me.

I get out of 90% of my potential tickets by being a nice guy to them. (And having friends and family who are cops)

That doesn't always work either (which I know is why you said 90%). I was very courteous to the officer who stopped me, didn't matter. Was SO tempted to set him straight on the inspection issue, but am smart enough to know not to argue with an officer. They can ALWAYS make things worse :(.

I don't know, Howard is partially right. State police in PA are about worthless, only bothering people for stupid crap like this but never there when you actually need them.

That's the thing... if it's just a conversation, the window being cracked an inch or fully open doesn't matter. Even if most of them are decent human beings, there's enough of them out there that are just power hungry goons to make it not worth taking a chance.

Obviously you were Raped by a super trooper or something but Rolling your window down is for more than just a conversation. Its about observing body language and being able to see your movements un-obstructed.

Sometimes a little courtesy goes a long way.

^ No kidding. You're gonna just roll down your window an inch or so? You might as well tattoo "dickhead" on your forehead.

It comes across as resistance, "Hey, I got something to hide..." Not the vibe you want to present to an officer. You be cool, they be cool. You know, respectful, that door swiings both ways.

Most have good b.s. meters anyway having to deal with it all the time.

So, you aren't doing this primarily as a way to exercise a right. You're doing this because you're fearful of being assaulted, correct?
