04 S60R Powerplant In My 00 V70 T5M?

I recently found an 04 S60R complete and running that is being parted out. The owner offered me the engine a a very good price. Is this going to be worth my investment of both time and money? If so, what are all the necesarry parts required from the donor car? It is an automatic and I would like to mate my 5 speed to it. Is this possible?

Sorry for the noon questions but all of my knowledge and experience of the white block ends at 2000. And if a build thread or link for this is available I apologize again.

How many miles on the R engine? Is he offering it complete with the K24 turbo? It's a fairly easy swap, all of the hard points on the 04 engine are similar to yours. You'll need to use a block off plate for the 04 intake cam solenoid and weld the intake VVT hub, make/get an adapter for the turbo over the engine pipe if using the K24, get a proper tune for the engine/turbo combo. Your manual trans will bolt up but I'm not sure about flywheel/pressure plate/clutch combos. Use your existing ETM(throttle module). I'm sure there are some other things, hopefully someone else will chime in.

One of the things you need to look for in the 04 R engines is if the cylinder wall(s) have cracked.

If your engine is running fine, why not just put the K24 on it? Just another suggestion. You should be able to utilize your stock PP/flywheel/clutch combo, but personally I'd considering upgrading depending on the strength of your stock setup.

The wagon has been sitting for quite some time now without an engine installed. I purchased it from chilledman a while back and have spent most of my time since working on other projects.

The R motor is around 120k but seems to be in good repair. There are no obvious signs of any oil leaks, the timing belt has recently been replaced, pcv is new, and it sounds quiet and strong. I plan on going back and running a compression test now that I know its a feasible swap.

He is offering me EVERYTHING I need for the swap for one price. So I thought I would grab it all... engine tranny driveshafts... everything and just use what I needed and pass the rest on.

Sounds like it may be a winner! Is this the R engine that Justin has?

I'm not entirely sure how difficult 00's are to do. But on my 01 it was a very pricey endeavor. Easily in to the 3-4 k range. My engine has only 62k on it though and the turbo has even less. But realistically you could end up spending a lot as you will need a custom 3" downpipe w/ exhaust, intake pipe, air charge pipe and possibly even an intercooler as you're stock one won't keep your engine very cool. And don't forget a tune. I know earlier models are cheaper, but I paid over $900 to have mine running at stage II R performance levels. Just make sure you price out EVERYTHING before you start. Down to the coolant, oil, and bolts. The total cost might surprise you.

Granted my car is insanely fast now, and quite a blast to drive. So it kinda depends on what you want from your car I guess. Just expect to pay a lot and you'll be fine.

No it isn't the R Justin has . I got lucky and found it at a small garage near home. But the potential price is putting me in the I'm not sure category. I think I will just give it back to justin and let him undertake the wagon. And just grab the swap for a future project. Thanks for all the input guys.
