fenwick253
I have a 2000 V70R and my bevel gear has eaten itself. I've split the case and noticed that most of the pinion gear's teeth are knocked off. To my surprise, the ring/main gear seems to not have eroded or missing teeth. I have a lead on another 2000 x70 angle gear with worn input spline wear, and I'm wondering if it would be a simple enough fix to swap my ring/main gear with the donor? Should I be concerned with mating issues of different angle gears (from wear), or preload/backlash issues, etc.? Thanks, Scott
cupdriver91
I would be they should be installed as a set.IMO
fenwick253
I would be they should be installed as a set.IMO My thoughts also. I would think each angle gear would have equal wear between the gears in their respected pairs, thus pairing others may lead to differences in degree of wear on the gear teeth, resulting in another failure. sjmcarz
^ Correct. Never mixed used ring and pinion gears, they must be a matched set only.
