mattsk8
I tried to avoid a whole new thread by searching and asking questions, but there are way too many different answers out there. Hoping I can get some of your input. Looking to put a new clutch and maybe a flywheel in my M66 swapped 99 V70r. The trans came from a 2005 S40. When I originally did the swap back in Oct, I used the clutch that came with the trans. I new it was thin, but I had spent a fair bit of money on the swap and didn't want to figure out which clutch to run at the time; I just wanted to get the car going again. Now that one's starting to slip a bit. First question is... Are the gains from going from the stock dual mass to a Viva Perf single mass worth the price tag ($600)?? What would be my best option for a clutch? I have 2 options so far... Either this: http://www.vivaperformance.com/spec-clutch-kit-stage-2-volvo-s60r-v70r-s40-v50-t5-c30-c70-t5/ Or this: http://www.vivaperformance.com/genuine-volvo-clutch-kit-s60r-v70r-2005/ I'm not pushing radical HP, I think I'm around ~280-300 ish at the crank with the mods I've done. Not looking to break the bank on this, I just want something that'll hold up decently. This is basically my DD, and I drive kind of hard but generally not racing the car. BlackT5
I'm running an S60R dualmass flywheel and clutch in mine. You could probably get the parts pretty cheap from one of the guys changing over to a singlemass setup.
andyb5
You can use a single mass flywheel with an 850R PP and Sachs SD693 clutch. '?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent>>

You could probably get the parts pretty cheap from one of the guys changing over to a singlemass setup. So a circa 2005 S60R, and my 2005 S40 had different dual mass flywheels? If you don't mind me asking, where did you get your clutch? You can use a single mass flywheel with an 850R PP and Sachs SD693 clutch. '?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent>> Thanks. Reading through that, it looks like the spline count on the 850 is different than my transmission's. My trans is basically the same as Tightmopedman9's and Hussein said the splines won't match. andyb5
Correct. The Sachs clutch has the right spline count for the later trans. You use the 850R pressure plate for good clamping force.
oblark
When I fitted my M66 box I just used the 850 flywheel, 850R pressure plate, S60R friction disc and internal slave. Works a treat
Piet
I'am thinking of fitting a M66 on my 850R, maybe make it a four wheeldrive, but I have Spec 3+ installed only 8k miles ago. So... that would't fit anymore, well that't a pity then...

So... that would't fit anymore, well that't a pity then... I happen to have two versions of the Spec Stage III M66 disc, one sprung, one unsprung When I fitted my M66 box I just used the 850 flywheel, 850R pressure plate, S60R friction disc and internal slave. Did you check the ID & OD of the S60R disc against the mating surface of the 850 PP ? It may work, but I was under the impression the contact area was different - the DM for S60R is larger contact area than the DM for other models, T5 may be the same, others I don't believe are. I'm not pushing radical HP, I think I'm around ~280-300 ish at the crank with the mods I've done. Not looking to break the bank on this, I just want something that'll hold up decently. This is basically my DD, and I drive kind of hard but generally not racing the car. The Stock S60R DM setup held up for me until I got over 350AWHP. Unless you got a T5 DM, the S60R clutch won't fit. (Edit, see Al's post below) If you're going SM, then KalmarUnion AP Racing setup like mine is an option.
Commander Riker
Not to hijack the thread... but to those with M66 single mass flywheels... how's the drivability in comparison to the dual mass? What differences are felt from the captain's seat?

What differences are felt from the captain's seat? Can't beat the smooth shift of the DM, stock S60R clutch, except with my KM AP setup Spec Stage III clutches are horrible in DD'ing by comparison... So, It depends which clutch you go with. The other issue is gear rattle, that is the largest detractor. I switched to Redline ShockProof HD, and most of the rattle is gone. Still annoys me though. Commander Riker
Viva sells the Spec clutch.. which I bought from a member on SS and it's paired with a stock S60R clutch and pressure plate. Matt Sk8 might be better off just getting a fresh clutch assembly and keeping it dual mass.
Ol' Dirty Noodle
I love my setup, when I matched the s60R disc against the 850R PP the disc diameter exceeded the contact surface of the PP

I love my setup, when I matched the s60R disc against the 850R PP the disc diameter exceeded the contact surface of the PP That's what I would have expected - the S60R clutch stock setup should hold more than a stock 850R setup
wizzard_al
The DM T5 flywheel is not the same as the S60R flywheel. Just had to replace the clutch on mine, and I couldn't get a flywheel and clutch in time to upgrade. VIDA shows a different part number, so I'd guess the T5 is either the same as the other manual trans cars, or a hybrid in between.
