mattsk8
So best option for the money (and to maintain good drivability) is looking like I should source a used ~2005 S60R flywheel, then get a new OEM clutch/pressure plate for a same year S60R... Correct?? Or would using this flywheel be the better option, mated to the S60R OEM clutch.. mattsk8
Can't use that single mass flywheel with a S60R dual mass clutch. So the clutches are different between single and dual mass flywheels?? This is getting too confusing I thought the OEM S60R clutch worked with a Viva SM FW. Is that Viva FW engineered to work with a dual mass clutch?? Will a stock ~2005 S60R DM flywheel work on my 99 engine?? If so, once I have that I would just need to source an OEM ~2005 S60R clutch; correct? This seems like the easy route (as long as will actually fit my set up). BlackT5
It will fit, it's what i'm running and it's a great setup for a DD type situation.

lookforjoe
Thanks, that's the route I'll go. Probably order tomorrow. Order new flywheel and PP bolts. The Flywheel bolts are coated & you will leak oil out the crank if you do not have coated bolts.
mattsk8
First off, thanks to everyone for the recommendations, and especially thanks to Ol' Dirty Noodle for responding to all my dumb questions. Ended up getting a used SM flywheel from a 97 850, a clutch kit for a 97 850 R, and a Sachs SD-693 disc. Seems great so far, but I've only put about 70 miles on it since I finished it last Friday. The only difference between my older clutch setup (05 S40 DM flywheel and clutch kit) and the one I just put in is maybe a lighter clutch pedal (but this might be in my head and its exactly the same). Aside from that it seems to be exactly the same; no rattle when I'm idling or when it's in neutral (heard this might come with a SM flywheel), and if anything it seems to be smoother. Haven't beat on it yet, waiting for 100 miles to do that. I'll post up later after I do that.
Ol' Dirty Noodle
I beat mine like Ray Rice's fiancée, she loves it ?
mattsk8
Been driving it for about a week now. Excellent clutch. I do hear a little more drive train noise from the SMF vs the DMF, but it's negligible and pretty much a non-issue.
apeacock
FOr future refference the DM flywheel looks to be the same for every car aside from the P2 R line>http://www.volvopartswebstore.com/products/Volvo/2006/S4025l-5-cylinder-Turbo4DRS-with-Sunroof/Flywheel/1145095/31259452.html That is a listing of all the cars the s40 variant fits.
