I am trying to hook up an amp and i only want it to turn on when the radio is on and off when i switch the radio off so do i tap a remote 12v wire or a constant 12v wire and what is the difference.

Constant 12V = always have 12V charge, check using a multimeter with the ground (-).

Remote 12V = turned on, only when you turn on the headunit.

The difference, remote 12 relatively has smaller current then the constant 12V.

So, the remote 12V from the Headunit should go to amplifier remote (REM). The +12V in the amp comes straight from battery. The GND in the amp comes from ground or negative charge of the battery.
