Matty Moo
Honestly, have you look into the first gen s/v40? They are pretty reliable and get decent gas mileage. Price has come down a lot. The thing with living in Michigan is that there really aren't a ton of foreign cars running around. I'd really like to get her an older Volvo, but there aren't many around and those that are will be clapped out/flipper specials and overpriced either way. She'll end up getting a Focus or something along those lines as I'm not going to invest the time searching for anything different if it isn't semi-local. Dick Dastardly
beetles are pieces of shit, you're surprised? And most modern BMWs aren't? They become teen moms as soon as they own one
Matty Moo
I'd agree that the 2-door Sunfire was the #1 single white trash mom car of all time. The real nasty ones always had the 4-doors. The Kia Rio seems to have taken it's crown recently, I see those things rolling all over with 2-3 kids in the back with the mom smoking cigarettes. OptimusGlen
I'm a bit late to the thread, but I agree that 98 isn't probably the best year for the MK4 chassis. On the bright side, the 2.0 is a solid little engine that's been the bread and butter for VW forever. I would never own one, but there was one for sale locally a few months back that was lowered with some neat wheels and big meaty white letter tires and modified to something like 300hp... pretty neat sleeper if you ask me. Piston Slapper
Please don't slam it. The new beetle is actually a rather well made car, decently safe unlike it's predecessor. Still, I wouldn't trust anything but a Volvo with the safety of kids who haven't learned how not to drive into tree and telephone poles yet. My parents stuck me in a '92 940 when I was 16 and it saved my life, I hydroplaned it into a tree at 50mph.
