850 Turbo Pvc Cleaning

I am pretty sure that the PVC system on my '95 855 Turbo is getting plugged up, and want to address it before it starts building up too much presure and all the problems that causes. However, I must admit to some confusion on just what to do and how to do it. I know that the car does not have a flame trap, and that it does have an oil separator burried under the intake manifold. I would like to avoid pulling the intake maniflod if possible, of course. Would someone lay out the steps I shjould go through to do a decent cleaning job here? Also any pitfalls like using brake cleaneer where it might damage components like the MAF?

All help appreciated - I have been procrastinating about this for too long

Some of you guys must do some maintenance on the PCV system of your turbo's - What are you doing? ie: typical preventative cleaning, and cleaning clogs?? The haynes manual seems to say that there is no normal maintenance for this system, but that is clearly not good advice considring how often PCV pressure issues seem to come up on this board. Thanks to all, Mike

That thread from last year is great. Sounds like everything you would ever need to know. I think I am going to start by pulling apart everything over at the intake hose end of the system first and see just how much gunk there is in the lines and valve there. Since I only have 75k on this beast, (and there are only slight signs of excess pressure) it sounds as if the actual oil separator box may not be particularly bad.

Is it common to have to replace the large intake hose or other hoses when doing this? I already have a few rubber elbows in stock, but would get typical hoses as well before starting since I wouldn't want to do it twice ;-)

Is this something that is being done every xxx miles by some of you?

Thanks again,

My old oil separator box seems fine too but I replaced it anyway. They was some gunk partly blocking the lower hose of the oil trap at the cylinder block. The oil trap wasn't expensive amd gave me peace of mind.

I regularly keep my PCV system clean, excpet for below the intake manifold. It's hard reaching below without taking the manifold off. In the future, if I see smoke, I guess that'll be the cue to look after the oil trap.
