100,000 Mile Maintenance

Just wanted to thank the people on this forum for replying to my questions and giving me advice on how to keep my xc90 in great running shape.Without these forums I would not have known that it is absolutely critical to change the timing belt, pulley, tensioner, waterpump etc.I bought the car used from a dealer who gave their word the car was in tip top shape and would give me many years of trouble free service. After reading on this forum I took off the top part of the timing cover and inspected the timing belt. The whole belt had really bad cracks over the parts I could see.Now since I work on cars myself and reading this volvo has a interference engine if the belt would have snapped I would be looking at a 5 to $7000 engine repair.I bought the car knowing it more than likely would need some work. The dealer said it was under warranty for 30 days bumper to bumper. After 2 weeks I started having problems with the alarm.I called to ask if they would take a look at it.Well sorry sir thats not covered I was told because the electrical was not part of the powertrain lol.Anyway after that I thought I need to have the belt changed asap.If they would not cover a $200 alarm module there was no way they would cover a engine failure. To sum up what I had done was the following:Timing belt, tensioner, idler pulley, waterpump, thermostat, hose from thermostat to reservoir. Cost$1512.00. Expensive but cheaper than a new motor and I am unfamiliar with timing belt changes especially the temperature setting for the tensioner.Hopefully I will be able to handle most of the other repairs.I just wish Volvo had hard copies of their repair procedures.I am used to using a Haynes or Chilton for my car repairs. Thanks again!!!!!!!!!

A beer it is if we meet!! Rounds of beers is cheap compared to the costly and frustrating mistakes you can make working on cars lol.I will check on that VIDA.I see them on ebay.I am just trying to make sure I can run it with my windows home edition software.I have an OBD scanner but I think I read there is a better one for Volvos.Cost about $100.00 I think.Again thanks forum.Making a donation as we speak!
