Nautic_Wagon
So, I usually post in the 1998 and older forums, but i spotted a 2000 V70R for sale ($2500), and i want it... it is drop dead gorgeous, but 3 gear solonoid is out, and i need to know the best way to fix this, for a REASONABLE price... advice below please
Midnight Caller
Does it have the AW50-42LE gearbox or the AW50-51 ?
NEU
All '00R are AW55. I don't know how much it is to repair the solinoids. Call some Trans shops by you and ask if they have done any AW-55, not if they can do it.
Midnight Caller
I repaired mine myself. It took 9 hours just to take off and put back the tranny oil sump and 30 seconds to replace the solenoid. I bought it from IPD for around 150$ three years ago. But I have AW50-42LE
kampman
How many miles are on it? Chances are the solenoid failure is symptomatic of a more serious issue with the transmission. The only way to fix it for sure is to have the trans rebuilt. With that in mind $2500 is an absurd price unless the rest of the car is mint. NEU
Not nessicerily, my friend's '00R just needed valve body repair. It was causing 3rd gear to slip, transmission was fine.
T5power
Not nessicerily, my friend's '00R just needed valve body repair. It was causing 3rd gear to slip, transmission was fine. Exactly. Sure, the transmission can often be the culprit, but just because people have issues with the trans doesn't ALWAYS mean it's 100% the trans. could just be one of the solenoids. happened in my Fiances focus. kampman
Apologies for the pessimism. If it is just an issue with the valve body, this is probably the one you want since it has all of the Sonnax upgrades: http://www.sunbeltvalvebodies.com/product/aw55-50sn-vb-sb4/ That being said, it's still a big gamble and I'd err on the side of caution. I love my '00 R but it was a JRL car and it had some history so it wasn't as much of a risk.
NEU
I've posted a lot of the Sonnax stuff on v70R.com years ago. There was a very good diagnosis page they had too the tell you exactly what could be the culprit. Lot more info on the AW55 is floating around nowadays. Ihatespeedbumps
I would want to know more about how the people selling are sure it's just the S3 solenoid, who told them that and why? If you do attempt repair it's totally doable and I would HIGHLY recommend replace the SL, SLU and SLT solenoids with the updated Rostra units. They can improve shift quality dramatically.
