Low Beams And Blinkers Not Working?

this is nuts but i'll try my best to explain here..

i bought a running/driving parts 850 na. it came with angel eye/jeweled headlights with nothing more than an absolute NEST of wiring behind them.. i'd never driven the car in the dark or really much at all other than purchasing and driving home.. i went to sell the car and a gal came with her dad to look at it.. she was impressed as it's pretty clean and drives well.. after she came back from a test drive she says, "the blinkers dont work?"

i say, "i actually dont know"

so her dad and i tell her to put the blinkers on - NOTHING.

her dad is now worried about what other electrical mishaps the car may have and sure enough the headlights dont work either?? the weird thing is when you pull back the blinker stalk for the highbeams - those work!

the stalk must be broken though because it wont stay in place for the highbeam position so they can stay on.

now in good faith i can't sell a gal a car without headlights or blinkers. so that was that.

it was nice yesterday so i decided to swap stock headlights and blinkers i'd had laying around to see if they'd work. further investigation proved the previous owner to wire (pin-by-pin) the light apparatus into the stock plug using power/ground for basically each bulb within these one-piece headlights.. the GOOD news is he didnt mess with the stock plug coming from the wire harness so stock headlights were just plug and play as normal.

here's where things get nuts and attention needs to be paid:

on the headlight switch, the parking lights/10 o'clock position seemingly work fine. the dash illuminates, the front corners light up as well as tail lights as normal.

*when i put the switch to lights ON/12 o'clock position, the dash turns OFF as well as the front corners AND tail lights - so the ON position turns everything OFF??

all the while the blinkers dont work singularly side to side, but they DO WORK WHEN HAZARDS ARE ENABLED.

the highbeams pulled back work in any position. headlights never come on.

so here's where im at:

it's quite obvious i need a new turn signal/highbeam stalk. this isn't uncommon and i gathered this soon as it was realized the stalk wouldn't stay in highbeam position. so that probably takes care of the blinkers as well.

but what about the headlights never working and everything turning OFF when the headlight switch position is to ON/12 o'clock??

- again, the stock plug and wiring harness were NOT touched/altered -

i thought it was the fuse for the headlights, but why would the dash work in the parking light position and not the headlights ON position?

i know this is a lot to read and probably a, "meh, that's his problem.." thread, but i can't be selling this car until i figure this out.. and it's a shame cause this thing is good to go otherwise.

any ideas would be awesome and i'll try anything.. already ordered the signal stalk and should be here on Monday. need to figure out the low beams though?

btw i poked out the headlight switch and looked at it's backside and it looks like it's never been touched so previous owner didn't mess with that..

I would try swapping out the electrical portion of the ignition switch, just to rule that out up front. I have a bad one that only kills the blinkers and the heated sets. Maybe the rats nest of wires is a red herring.

ha hey Erik, the 'nest' is gone with the headlights.. the guy literally just got bulk ground and power wire and went from bulb to bulb and spliced the ends into the stock headlight plug?? it was weird... i just tossed the lights and all the wiring dangling from them..

i actually have a spare switch so i'll try the turn stalk 1st and if that doesn't jive, i'll know now to try the ignition switch.. funny you mention it because the seats (at least the lights) dont work when i push their buttons..
