izebob
Never replaced axles on a volvo, but I had the notable "clickety clang" noise on my 96 auto 850. My driver side definately had some play in it (so I pulled it out), the pasenger side seemed solid. All the boots were in good shape. First question: would it be wise for me to replace my passenger side axle as well at this time, even if it isn't totally bad? If so... second question: Can I pull both axles at the same time? Or will it cause issues when re-installing? I know some vehicles it's suggested to only remove one at a time. Regardless, I plan to get my axle(s) rebuilt by Raxles or some similar vendor. Keaton85
Do whatever, doesn't matter, both, one, same time, different times. Whatever combo you like...
kalvin
If the current axle is good visible shape and not making any noises I'd say leave it alone. CV failure is usually very slow and noticeable. You can pull both axles at the same time without any issues. No reason to do so in my opinion. The job takes less time if you do one side at a time. adamdrives
The only reason imo not to pull both at once (if they do need replacing, seems like you're not sure) is that by pulling one at a time you can angle the tranny and not lose (as much) fluid when you pull one out. izebob
Thanks for the quick responses! I'll just leave the passenger side in then, since it seems fine and is quiet.
laird
You'd need more than two hands to pull them both at the same time. Just sayin.
