rmorse
But then how would people know they are in the glorious presence of my volvo? The smell of oil at long idles.

lookforjoe
Not a wagon, but an 850 non the less: Keep the stock badge. UGH. Wouldn't be as bad if they had actually measured & taped off a straight line across the deck lid, but that wonky ass shit is just wrong
JaredR1
Here's an estate for you guys. I'll be redoing the badges on my 850R as part of my restoration so I did some photoshopping to see what it'd look like with the centered Volvo. Take what you want from these pictures, but after doing it I'm definitely planning on sticking with the original layout. Not a fan of debadging.....1) I like my 850R so why would I want to conceal its identity? 2) I think it really makes you stand out. 3) people get pulled over for it and I personally prefer not have unnecessary delays caused by stupid stuff. NEU
Wat. I thought the same thing when I read that... I'm sure if they did get pulled over it was for doing something else. And def not in a Volvo wagon...

aharres
I have people call for parts for jetta and golfs... and "Volkswagen XC90s" When I had an S60R, I was getting my battery replaced at autozone. When I told him it was in the trunk he said "These darn german cars always have the batteries in the trunk". Here's an estate for you guys. This is exactly what I wanted to see. But now I'm thinking I will keep my badges where they are. It looks good, but I think having it on the sides looks better. bob82pigdog
My wagon is badgeless and it surprises me every time when people know to say, "Nice Volvo!" I feel like the general population is usually clueless about makes and models if the badges are gone. I know, because I shave badges on all my vehicles. Personally, I think every car looks better shaved. It transforms the look because you are more focused on the car's form and your brain has to work in a different way to identify the vehicle. If someone not into cars doesn't know what I drive, I don't care. But if someone still identifies it without badges, it lets me know who the cool kids are. I think Volvos, especially the wagons, just have one of those iconic shapes that everyone knows. I could understand not wanting to shave the badges on an R, though. Some people understand the "R" and respect it. Most people I encounter don't know or understand what "T5" is, so i didn't care about removing it from my tailgate. lookforjoe
3) people get pulled over for it and I personally prefer not have unnecessary delays caused by stupid stuff. Sorry, it looks wrong either way. Leave the R badge & ditch the rest, IMO MA troopers can be buttholes, but the idea of one pulling you over because there are no badges is ridiculous. Anyone who claimed that was the reason is lying. There is no law that states the vehicle is required to have badges on it. They run the plate, which tells them exactly what you are driving, hell, you guys don't even need a front plate ($400 fine in NY) and you reckon they give a shit about a badge that says "Volvo"???? volvoguy23
On the newer models it looks pretty good.....However I would have to agree that unless it's and 'R' no badges at all looks even better.....and also removing the front plate. It gives every p80/ P2's such a clean look. I've had people say "nice jetta" and it's like, "how the hell does this look like a jetta?" But there are plenty of european familiarized car people out there that can tell its a Volvo and really admire it. IMO, especially the p80's, 'R' or not they look great with no emblems.
