BtownVolvo
While we are talking of leaky hoses on fuel system. I wonder, am i supposed to have a vacuum in the tank. Say when you open the gas cap - shall i expect a whoosh sound as pressure is equalized? I believe it should be relatively neutral. Certainly not enough to make a "wooshing" sound when you remove the gas cap. You might do well to check your vent hoses and carbon canister to make sure everything is flowing well throughout the system. Also, to add to the usefullness of this thread, another common hose failure is at the rollover shutoff valve. Same deal where the hose is 2 different sizes on each end, but still roughly $20 to fix. There are 2 of them; one going in the valve, and one coming out.
gswede
Ok thanks. It is neutral on mine, never knew if the cap seal was for holding pressure or vacuum. No evap codes either. I did change my fuelpump a few months back OEM. Ever since then I get a whiff of petrol, more often than not on startup and a few minutes thereafter. But, no smell inside car. Piping on top of tank looked good, at least what I could see of it. Filter is also new. Never seen leak. Guess maybe it is my exhaust, rich mix when cold. BTW I did find the checkvalve between intake and evap purge valve to be faulty. Got it changed. Would such a fault lead to pressuring up the evap/fuel system under boost or is the purgevalve always closed unless at idle or coasting? Reckon the checkvalve is there for a reason.. Any known adverse effect of that checkvalve stuck "open"?
milanomike
Were you able to get this without dropping the tank, or is there a way to partially lower without disconnecting everything? Thanks.
erikv11
When I did this hose on my 95 I dropped the tank. If you empty the tank it is actually super light.

My tank was practically empty, just dropped it partially (not completely out) and accessed everything through the trunk area. The tank is pretty damn light but I still used a jack to lower and hold it. Added bonus was I filled my car up immediately after to make sure the problem was fixed! Did you replace any of the other lines while up there? As I recall there are a few more.

As I recall there are a few more. Nah. They looked ok, so I didn't fool with them. And it isn't a bad enough job where it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to drop the tank and do it again if I had to. Besides, the one I did was the hardest to get to.
