I hear what you guys are saying.

However, I am too deep into the project now to change everything all over. Therefore I will go with the SPM stuff and see how it goes.

If it holds up fine, great. If not, also fine and I will share my experiences here for others to benefit from them.

Thanks for testing.. :)

I guess the overall advice is to measure everything for consistency.

Hi,

spent some time with my engine today.

The SPM rods in 141.4mm length arrived. We measured every bit of them and all measurements were absolutely perfect. No oval bores or anything, everything as it should. Of course, the 25.7mm width at the top is too much so we have to shave some material off there, just like with the CX racing. The reason is that the pistons are very narrow and made for 25.0mm rod width. The insert in the "eye" looks far better than in the CX racing rods and is much thicker. I guess the insert in the CX racing is 21mm and machined to 23mm.

We put the block together with the Glyco main bearings and Volvo pink stuff, torqued (and angled) all bolts (all new) to spec with the 93.2mm crank in place. Also put some honey-like material on the main bearings to reduce friction at the first startup.

During the week we will measure the exact chamber volume to determine the compression ratio I we are at now. Will be exciting.

Below some pictures from today:

SPM rod (the bolts are not the ones they came with. We used them for test assembly, the only difference is the head length)

Ah, and the turbo has arrived:

Hey German850R, have you mounted the EFR to the R manifold yet? I'm considering purchasing this turbo and was wondering what the available firewall clearance would be. I found some dimensional drawings, but unfortunately they don't specify the depth.

This is for my AWD, so I won't have to worry about the rear hydraulic mount.

Yes, sure. Engine is assembled apart from valve cover. That will be on soon. Next up is shaving the R manifold and porting it and upsizing the studs. After that turbo will be fitted to check how it fits. In the meantime lots of waiting for stuff and I found someone who will sell me some parts to fully convert to the RN peripherals.
