O2 Sensors

Hi guys!

After running rich situation where new front oem o2 sensors and maf didn't help i connected rear o2 sensor to front sensor's connector and front o2 to rear sensor's connector.

Problem with running rich condition vanished completelly, car runs like new and fuel consumption back to normal.

So...when the car runs on front o2 there is black smoke from the exhaust but when runs on rear o2 which is connected to front o2 connector everything is back to normal.

Can i drive it like this or i need to connect both sensors on their coresponding connectors?

It will only likely run okay for a while until the adaptives catch up with the oddity in how voltages are received from the O2 sensors. Did you disconnect your battery or ECU after you put in a new MAF and O2 sensors? Also, are they original? Specifically the O2 sensor, make sure it's not a universal fit sensor but with the original harness.

It runs for a few days like this allready.I disconnected battery to reset ecu and no matter what i do it keeps running rich on front o2 sensor. That's why i tried to rotate o2 sensor's connectors.

The only thing which don't work in the car is sas system.I did sas delete with a diode last month and since the running rich condition was persistent i removed a diode from ecu.

Why fuel mixture is ok when performing on rear o2 and why it's not on a front o2 like it should be?

There was situations where owners were rotating o2 connectors between sensors and had success with it,but i couldn't find was there actually a solution for this .

This is probably a given, but could it be that the wires were originally crossed and it's working fine now? I also don't recall, but I thought the connectors were keyed so that you can't put the two in the wrong space?

I thought that too,but they are ok.Black for the front and grey for the rear. They are keyed but you can connect front to rear o2 without trouble.

I own the car for the last 15 years, bought it back in 2000.Regularly serviced and properly maintained with always oem parts for electronics.

A week after i did this car runs like champ. No check engine light yet,but i expect it to turn on.Today i disconnected front o2 from rear connector and left rear o2 on front connector.Practically...i disconnected rear o2 sensor.

It seems like it doesn't matter where o2 sensor is located in exhaust pipe as long as it is in the exhaust and o2 is working.Performance is not lost, idles smooth like nothing is happening, fuel consumption is normal like it was when it was new.
