goobernoodles
I've had a clunking noise coming from the driver-side front for a while now that at this point, I'm thinking it might be strut mount/spring seat related. I've checked and rechecked the tightness of all of the suspension components as well as the steering rack bolts (one was loose) that were removed when Steve (goldponcho) and I swapped in an M56H. I had put in the HD strut mounts from IPD maybe 2-2.5 years ago? Something like that. Nothing feels loose when I'm driving, but something is clearly moving around somewhere. Thoughts? FYI - I edited the audio a bit to bring out the noise.
Volvo5.0
Put a 7/8" or 22mm wrench on the top shock nut and see if you can turn it. If it spins freely it's a bad spring seat.
erikv11
+1, a lot of people have had those HD spring seats from IPD wear out early, I would check it.
JRoc
Sounds like a spring seat to me, or a loose top nut. If it is indeed a spring seat, call IPD and see what they can do for you. Sounds too loud to be an endlink.
Modus
If it is not spring seats I can bet on sub frame bushings, as this is the same sound I am getting and my suspension is okay. Go figure.
bob850
I had a front driver side clunk that I chased for a while. It turned out to be that the IPD front sway bar bushings were worn out, despite period regreasing (were about ten years old). I replaced with new units from IPD and it fixed the problem. Worth checking.
goobernoodles
Ended up replacing the strut mounts and spring seats and all is well. That said, the driver sway-bar end link was a tad loose, so that was probably the culprit. I had checked it previously and it must have significantly loosened up since then. Oh well. It feels solid now.
