bob850
I have a used factory amp that I plan to install in our 1997 850 (the one that mounts in front of the heater core). I was just wondering if these amps are prone to internal components, such as capacitors, going bad. If so, I thought I might open it up and do some preventative component replacements before installing. Does anyone know how they come apart or have any experience working on these units? loseR99
an 18 year old OEM amplifier and preventative maintenance? It wouldn't be worth the time. Use it until it breaks and then replace it with another used one.
Joshdub
I think that is the Dolby processor. Just rock it until it goes out it ever.
goldponcho
Josh, V70R had the amp under the passenger seat and mounted the Dolby processor behind the head unit. 850's didn't get the Dolby, so the amp is back there.
Commander Riker
The VR I just bought has maybe 2 of 9 speakers working. When the stock stuff goes, use that as motivation to install a proper stereo. At least, that's what I'm doing.
