fasteddyT5
A few days ago I went to change the light bulbs in the center overhead lights (The old ones were working at the time, but I wanted to change them back from red to white lights). I popped it down and went to put the lights in. One worked for a moment but wasn't very tight so I took it out and bent in the contact for the bottom of the bulb. But for some reason now the interior lights do not work at all, and more weirdly I can unlock the doors by flipping the overhead light switch to its off position. It seems that there is some sort of interaction going on between the overhead light console and the door lock and door closure system. I know that the interior lights are connected to the door lock/door closure system in the sense that they come one when you unlock the car and when you open the door. But I don't know where this interface happens? Is it in the little black box behind the the overhead lights? or somewhere else? Other weird symptoms: 1) the corner lights no longer flash when I lock the car 2) the trunk open dash light is stays illuminated when I start the car 3) the door open ding continues after the car is started What is really weird is that both (2) and (3) can be stopped by flipping the overhead light switch from its normal middle position to off. Also if you push the button for one of the overhead lights to come on, the light stays off but the trunk open indicator and the dinger come on. They go off once you flip the center switch on and off again. Otherwise the car is operating perfectly fine with no other electrical issues. I have tried disconnecting the overhead light module, but this don't change anything and makes it so that I can't turn off the dinger. My first thought is to try swapping out the light unit, but I don't have access to any parts cars at the moment (We recently moved to Tacoma, WA, so I lost me easy access to a friends auto shop to pull out spare parts). Before I go off to a local parts yard, are there any other parts that might be related to this problem that I might try to get?
VolvoNor
Somewhat related to my problem I guess, I installed a new mirror and disconnected the lights and now my remote/alarm isn't working. I hate gremlins!
Serge
Try swapping out the central locking relay, it also controls the the overhead lights so that might be the cause.
Rod'sT-5
Check all the fuses, especially those for the interior lights. Might be that simple!
VolvoNor
It's not my meaning to hijack your thread but, my car acts strange. As I said I installed a new rear view mirror and my courtesy lights stopped working, but now, all of a sudden my trunk light comes on when I close the tail gate and turns off when I open it Checked all the fuses and tried to change the central locking relay to a known good one. I'm thinking ground issue somewhere. Most likely in the front courtesy light area.
fasteddyT5
Check all the fuses, especially those for the interior lights. Might be that simple! It turns out that that was all it was. I had meant to check the fuses sooner, but I only drive the car now less than two miles to work so I hadn't gotten around to it. I pulled the fuse today and it was blown. So it looks like if fuse 15, which controls the interior lights, goes it creates all sorts of weird issues. Anything that turns on the interior lights, including opening the glove box, turns on the trunk open warning light. And I still don't understand why when that fuse is out you can unlock the doors by switching the overhead light to the off position. Also you could also hear the locks unlock when someone opened and closed a door. It is all very weird, but I am happy that this gremlin was easy to solved and has been rid from the car.
