2001 S60 Base Engine System Service Required

Overhaul

Recommended Posts

Hi all, only second post. Please bear with me here, I'm having trouble with the Engine System Service Required . My car is a 2001 S60 Volvo Base non turbo . I have done a lot of reading on all the sites to see if I could do this with out bothering anyone about this. My cruise control works perfect so I don't think it is the brake pedal position sensor that is causing it to come on. In fact everything is working fine except for the message . Every time I get the oil changed the Engine System Service Required goes out. Then after 3 restarts the message comes back on the dash. The last time I had it changed I asked them to leave out 1 liter from full and they did, but it did not work it came back on again. So I put the liter of oil in after I got home. I had red where the oil to high on the dip stick would make the message come on. So I'm wondering if I should take out about 2 liters to see if the message goes out. Then I red about the mass air flow sensor being unplugged would have made the massage come on too. So I unhook it drive around till the engine light comes on and then plug it back in and clear the codes. My ETM may be the reason I'm not sure but I hope not $600. I read the codes in the message center and it says ECM set, CCM set, CDM set, DDM set and ETM set. What has me stumped it that it goes out when they take the oil out of the engine. Any thoughts or help here will be muchlly appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you for the reply Fran, I will try to get a scan with a better OBD11 reader and see if they can get a code to come up. Mine is only $100 one.  Maybe a more expensive one will do the job. I found out to day that I do not have to start the car to get the message to come on. I cleared the message with a OBD11 scanner and then I turned the key to num.2 position and off again, 3 times and it turned the message on again.

At my dealer, we check codes for free for any warning message or warning light. If it's something really simple, we let you know there what it needs or where we need to start. If we need to go further into the diagnosis, then we ask for the customer to authorize diag time that they will have to pay for. You should call around some Volvo dealers in your area and see if they do something similar.

Thanks you for your support on this with me. There is only one dealer in nova Scotia and they are 300km. from me. The last time I was there this winter in February I had to get them to change a fuel sending unit in my fuel tank and know joke about it , it cost me $780.00. They are very expensive to go to. I had a full tank of gas at the time so they took out a 1/4 of a tank and charged me $50.00 to discard  the gas. And I lost that gas which was worth $30.00 then. So I have an appointment with a teck guy with a Snap on scanner he said it cost him thousands. So it should read something. I will post back when I get some results.

They charged you to discard the fuel? What a joke. We drain the fuel from the tank into a container before we replace the fuel pump, but after we put the gas back in the car. What you came in with is what you leave with. The repair is fairly expensive, $780 is about right. We charge 4 hours labor and whatever the cost of the pump is, which is not cheap either.

That scan tool should work to get you started in the right direction. My personal scan tool is a Matco one and when I read Volvo's it's just as good as VIDA.
