zooklm1
I have a 2002 V70 XC with the 2.4l turbo. Engine threw a rod and I found a replacement from a 2002 S60. After I pulled the old engine, I took off almost everything except the crankshaft position sensor (CPS) (an now I think I need it). The reason I think this is I cannot seem to find a connector on my engine wiring harness that has a mating connector for the position sensor that came with the engine. The harness has a sensor (that appears to be similar to a crankshaft position sensor) hard wired on to the it. I am wondering if the CSP connector is on a harness that I placed out of the way and the hard wired sensor goes somewhere (that I don't remember) else on the engine or transaxle. I tried removing the CPS that has a connector and installing the hardwired sensor, but the hardwired sensor bracket hole does not line up with the existing bracket. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks,Lee
Fran9690
My guess is that the crank sensor was replaced at one point with an aftermarket universal and was spliced in. I have never seen a crank sensor hard wired into the harness.
Piston Slapper
Swap the bracket too?
Fran9690
If I'm not mistaken, doesn't the trans have to be pulled to swap the bracket? Never replaced the bracket on a 5 cylinder. I've broken the bracket on a T6 XC90 and the trans has to be pulled on that one to replace.
andyb5
The crank position sensor bracket can be removed without touching the transmission - the casing on the transmission is actually notched around the crank sensor, so you could theoretically remove the transmission without removing the crank sensor. The bracket is held onto the engine by 2 10mm bolts and an alignment pin. Remove the bolts, then use a screwdriver or prybar to wiggle the bracket off the pin.No sensors are ever hard-wired into the harness, someone spliced it into the harness and deleted the OEM plug. Two choices here - remove the hardwired sensor and replace it with the correct sensor and plug setup like it came from the factory, or swap brackets and use the existing sensor.
