Ronny
I just replaced the timing belt in my 07' XC70. On a video I watched, the tech removed the crankshaft pulley. I tried this and realized that I didn't have the proper tool. So, I felt around the pulley and found a small cover which I removed. There were 2 bolts holding it on. The timing belt then slipped easily around the crankshaft pulley without removing it. Anyone encounter this?
Fran9690
All P2's have that, some take that off to take off the belt, others take off the pulley. It's really a personal preference. I take off the pulley so I can get a better look at the timing mark on the crank, I get OCD when it comes to precise, important things like that. The crank pulley isn't really that hard to remove. Just need an air gun to zip off the 30mm bolt and once you remove the other 4 smaller bolts that hold it to the crank gear, the pulley comes right off with some wiggling. If it's hard to take off, I shove a prybar on down from the top and pry on the pulley against the tensioner bolt for leverage and it pops off no problem.
