milanomike
OK, got a 97 850, I'm real comfortable working on this car, real easy for a FWD'er and the car runs solid, my daughter drives it. Got a 93 940 that just getting too old for my other daughter who is 4 hours away. But, I got a bead on a 04 V70, looks to be a non turbo.Miles are a bit higher, 150K, than I want, but she looks real clean and well maintained, I'll verify that later, asking price is good, I'm amazed at times how cheap these cars are. What are the main issues with these cars, I assume ETM issues are gone by now, timing belt was done at 120, that leaves LCA's, tie rods, etc. Anything else I need to know here? MyBrickIsSlow
Alarm siren failure. Check the sunroof, if it doesn't open the siren needs replaced. They are pricey an this will mean a trip to the dealer for software as well. You can just unplug the siren, your sunroof will work again, but you will have a warning message on the instrument cluster at every start up.Climate controls can be funny on them as well. There is a 10k thermistor tied into the ccm that commonly fails and shuts down the whole unit. The thermistor can easily be replaced if you can source the part.FPR and check valves fail commonly, causing a hard start/long crank situation. Both are cheap and easy to replace. These still have the j pipe that causes the small evap leak CEL. Also cheap and easy to replace. Not sure about the trans, there was a change from the 5 speed auto to the less troublesome 6 speed auto somewhere around 04. Make sure to check into that, as it would be the most costly in the list of common issues.I'm sure I may have missed one or two, but these are the ones that i have had to deal with recently. milanomike
Thanks for the input, the siren thing sounds like a pain, but I'd unplug it. Just saw a youtube video on the ECC, looked like a real hassle, that sh*t turns me off a lot. The other stuff seems like just nuisance stuff. somewhere on this site I read auto tranny's from 03 and up were OK (again provided fluid is changed once in a while). Maybe I limp along with the 93 for a while longer, I've got a shop near daughter (in school) that is cheap.
milanomike
OK, missed the deal on the 2004, but these look like decent machines (with a few quirks like all cars). We'll see what else shows up in the near future, thanks for the help MyBrickIsSlow.Mike
