Seaway
When I got my car there was no hood insulation pad. I didn't mind the noise at first, but I would like to try and quiet it down some, if possible. Are there any products that work better than the stock hood pad? Dynamat? When I apply it, do I put it inside all the bracing that is in the hood? Cut to fit the openings, or should it cover everything? Will dynamat or similar stand up to the heat? loseR99
boom mat is what i used. got it from summit racing. Also works well to isolate noise in other places like door panels and such.
Saleen9091
If you use it, I would just cover the whole thing. If you google it, you can see people do both methods. I would think for best results you would want to cover everything. I have used dynamat in the past and it uses some type of tack or tar to adhere. I have seen people use it for under hood applications so you should be fine.
Seaway
Thanks very much! I will try the boom mat stuff as it seems to be priced pretty well.
BEJinFBK
Be careful about weight - OEM pad weighs nothing. If you use Dynamat or anything else heavy, the hood won't stay up.
Aequitas_Veritas
Why not just go to the junkyard and grab one?
Seaway
Where I live there aren't really any junkyards, so just going to the junkyard and grabbing one isn't an easy option. The Dynamat and Boom Mat hood insulation weigh under 3 pounds, so I don't imagine the hood staying open would be an issue with either of those products. I may do nothing at all as I am not overly confident it will help with noise reduction anyway.
tuner4life
Not sure if they still do, but iirc Dynamat used to make a kit specifically for under-hood applications. Would probably look nicer than the stock piece too.
