swampcollie
I have a 2004 C70 rag top with a 2.3 and auto transmission. Recently rebuilt the whole head. When I put it back together I headed down to the local Autozone for a thermostat. Grabbed the one listed in the parts book and headed back to get my little gray baby back together. Come to find the thermostat I bought and the thermostat in the car were two completely different beasts, Thinking AZ had an error I checked with Advance, O reilly's Car quest and NAPA. All had the same one listed as I had bought. I now have the problem of trying to find this thermostat. There are no legible numbers on the part I removed. The thermostat I need is considerable smaller than the listed part having a diameter of approx 1.5 " compared to 2.4" and looks different (it does not have the brass "bridge" across the top). I think this car was a european delivery if that makes a difference,Anybody have any ideas? My local stealer is a useless waste of space.

Kevin.
can't you convert the housing to the old style by just swapping the thermostat housing?
andyb5
can't you convert the housing to the old style by just swapping the thermostat housing?Yes, although you also need change the upper radiator hose to match the earlier t-stat housing. swampcollie
thanks guys. The thermostat housing looks very similar to the one pictured. Looks like I need the whole assembly and perhaps a new upper radiator hose. As it states on the FCP description, the original t'stat is no longer available. Kinda sucks as I just purchased a new Temp sensor to cure a hard start issue.
Midnight Caller
A friend of mine had the same problem. He told me he bought the old T-stat piece and adjusted (filed) it so it would fit the new housing. I didn't see that with my own eyes, but he says it's working so...maybe it helps.
