How To Adjust A Window In A 2004 C70 Covertible

Hello All. I just replaced the drivers side  window regulator in a 2004 C70 Convertible. When I roll the window up and down a few times the cable slips off the upper roller near the door handle. With a pair of needle nose pliers I can pull the cable ferrule and put it back in the glass attachment. Is there a way I can adjust something so this doesn't happen?? I have the window adjusted so it fits well with the top and by the mirror but there is a gap by the rear window.  Any advice is appreciated.

Did you replace the regulator with a used unit?  Make sure it isn't chipped.  All the weight of the window is on this pulley.  I have - thru necessity - become somewhat experienced at pulling these things in and out.  Total PIA.  There is a guy in Tx who will rebuild these things for around $175 or so and in my mind its well worth it.

There is a write up somewhere on the net for replacing that plastic pulley with a metal one you can buy from Lowes.  I did this and it worked for a while. The cable eventually came off on another corner.  About the cables....  I was unable to source the correct diameter cable anywhere on this side of the pond.  If the cable kinks at all, it is junk, and if it kinks anywhere near the motor it makes a mess.  I tried several combinations with a guy who specializes in custom motor cycle cables, but the nearest cable I could get that would wind into the motor was not heavy enough to take the strain and the braised ends would break.  Buy the cables from England or Latvia - cost about $60 delivered but you will wait 10 days or so.

To adjust them there is an adjustment screw just under the door handle for which you will need an E6 torx socket.  This will adjust the window up and down at the rear of the window.  The window needs to be almost all up to access this adjustment and you will need at least an 8" extension.  To adjust the front you need to loosen the crimp on the slide (T30 I think) and lower or raise the glass then retighten.  It is tricky to do by yourself.  Liberal use of blocks and clamps and three hands helps.  Don't forget to stock up on cuss words before you begin - you will need them.

If I have to buy another on (just a matter of time, have an 04 and the driver's window hasn't been done yet) Ill look on ebay for a used one with the glass still attached or I will use the guy in Tx and very, very, very carefully mark the glass position relative to the door frame and the regulator.

Thank you so much for the reply, I did buy the regulator used off eBay...and yes the pulley was cracked from wear. I found the thread where you can replace the pulley with a steel one and I will try to post it here. I am going to try that next. The guy in Texas, does he replace the pulley with steel pulleys?? Do you have a contact  number for him if this doesn't work. This has turned into a nightmare for me. I am doing a good deed for my sister who wanted to sell her 2004 C70 Convertible and after she heard the price of the repair and told me, I said very ignorantly...."No way do you have to pay that much!!! I can do it myself!!!" Sheesh!! What did I get myself into!! Thanks again for the reply and any advice is very appreciated. And a very special thanks to Aequitas_Veritas for posting the steel pulley fix.
