Portable WIFI Media Storage

Ok guys its not 1999 anymore so I would like to join the millenials and need some help.

Concept: stream kids shows to daughters kid tablet that she will be getting for her bday, also stream audio to my phone for bluetooth or aux interfacing with head unit through Grom BT3 in V70R, or stock head unit in wife's '12 CX-9.

Initially was thinking an external hard drive in center console, along with a usb hub to power all this shit. Headrest mount for kids tablet, grom bt3 for stock head unit which is already ordered. I use an android phone, so imagine I can stream mp3 files easily. Wife uses an iPhone so she will get to listen to my music.

I am here asking about specific models, setups you guys have. What are the best methods to integrate this stuff? External hard drive connected to small router, or are there hard drives that project their own network? Which is preferable? Keep in mind would like to move it between the two cars...

I wrote this post listening to the Tron soundtrack. The future is awesome, help me be a part of it!

I put something like this together with a Raspberry Pi, although it doesn't work exactly like your use case would.

My RasPi is setup with as a wifi hotspot only to allow client connections to act as remote controls and the music (stored on 32GB USB drive) is piped out the aux port.

I'm willing to bet you could copy my setup, but then add a Bluetooth adapter as well if you want to stream wirelessly. It's not exactly plug and play, but let me know if you want more details.

Maybe something like this?  http://www.cnet.com/products/sandisk-connect-wireless-media-drive/

Looks like it would allow you to load to the device via USB connection,  has 64gb built-in, and can add up to 128gb sd card.  Wireless streaming to up to 8 devices.  Small,  with long battery life.  I'm sure you could wire the usb connection in somehow to give it juice also.

so just to clarify, you want to play audio through the stock HU as well as play media through tablets in the rear?

Correct. Kid will get some hello kitty bluetooth headphones for tablet. We are going to be set for any length of car trip here, this isn't for the drive to school!

Just installed the Grom BT3 last night, so that's my avenue in via Bluetooth or aux jack to stock head unit.
