Supporting Mods 19T in 1998 V70 T5M

Seaway

Recommended Posts

I am going to put a 19T in my 1998 V70 T5M in the near future.  So far I have the turbo, green injectors, 3" down pipe and cat to an IPD cat back exhaust, Snabb intake and a Japanifold. I am obviously getting a tune for all of this.

Aside from Stage 0 maintenance, are there any other supporting changes/mods/maintenance that I am overlooking or that I should do?  Are stock plug wires and ignition going to be suitable?  I am not looking to run the car on the razor's edge, just have a solid performer and daily driver.

Lots of options for fuel pump

i have the Walbro (think its 255lph)

do88 drop in is exactly what you need :)

other things you can do that "help"

intake manifold spacer

Na throttle body and Intake mani

biggest thing is stage 0 like you said

sure up leaks and potential weak spots and have fun!

+1 recommend on the do88 w/rip kit; aka as the "BigPack".  Save up and go for it.  And if you're doing the N/A throttle body, make sure to order the 76mm (3") rather than the stock 63mm.  This is the setup i have.

Main thing I noticed from the mod was I didn't have huge drop-off in pwr in the hot summer temperature driving; with the stock intercooler, summer would turn my very nicely pwr'd DD, into kind of a dog (by comparison).  You will still see some pwr drop-off in summer, even with the do88 intercooler, but I almost don't even notice it now.

I lucked out and got mine with the last group buy on VS; probably saved me close to $200 i figure.. there are less expensive options out there, but the do88 is probably the best.. at this point in time..

Are there any real world numbers as to the benefits of the Rip Kit?  I know that it has been discussed at length, but I don't know as I have ever seen a definitive answer.  "Better throttle feel," "shorter path of charge air travel" "lower intake temps" and all that sounds good, but is there any practical difference in a daily driver?  If not, I will probably skip it.  The do88 drop in at $500 is plenty spendy enough for me.

The D088 is quite nice.

I  recommend the DW200 pump.

I am going to look into fuel pumps and see what makes the most sense.  I looked at a few videos and tutorials about replacing it last night and it seems pretty straight forward as long as there is an access port inside the car. I will have to look to make sure my car has one.  Is the stock fuel pump simply not up to the task of feeding enough fuel to the injectors?

I am going to skip the NA throttle body and intake manifold as well as the cams at this point.  I am sure they help, but my main interest lies in having a reliable (as a 17 year old high mileage car can be) daily driver.  I don't want to push things to the max.  Honestly, I wasn't going to do any of these upgrades until I rode in am S70 T5M with a 19T and a TMM9 tune and felt the felt the difference in performance over my car.  It was silly.  And right after that encounter, it was like fate intervened and I got an offer to trade some wheels (beautiful refinished Volans) for a CJ Yother down pipe and cat, found a cheap but perfect 19T, and found a set of green injectors out of a low mileage donor car.

With any luck I will have the exhaust sorted by Wednesday.  I am interested to see how that impacts the way the car performs.  I am running an ARD Green Tune and a 16T on the 2000 V70R motor now and it is plenty of fun.  Maybe once the down pipe is installed I will skip the 19T upgrade.  But I seriously doubt it.

Unfortunately some of the graphs stopped working.

@17psi..

OEM intercooler:

After IC temp: 88ºF

Pressure drop: 2.9psi

do88 drop in performance intercooler:

After IC temp: 71ºF

Pressure drop: 0.7psi

I think you will definitely feel 17 degrees cooler and 2.2 lbs more boost. It's a good upgrade considering how hot the little td04's get.. as well as typical boost fade.

All this being said, I think you'll be better off spending money else where (going by your goals in the first post). Maybe spend it on gauges (boost/afr/egt) if you don't have them.

Is it finally happening?!?  I didn't realize my car inspired you that much :P hahaa jk

It's going to happen. Not soon, but it's going to happen. I had a lot of otherother maintenance to do first. Lots of front suspension stuff as well as all new everything in the ignition system. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor and coil. Then I had some rear suspension stuff to do as well. I hope to get the tune and turbo in by the end of January.

The do88 intercooler is definitely something I am interested in doing at some point.

My car has been one problem after another for the last couple months. It's finally running well and driving well. All new everything will do that. I also installed an IPD rear sway bar and IPD short ram intake. And control arms and tie rod ends. Should be ready for the 19t as soon as my wallet is. I had to replace the two batteries on my boat today too. It never ends!

You may be able to find an angled flange exhaust housing over on Swedespeed.

I am going to spend the next two months fishing for big ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD catfish and hope that I am done fixing stuff for a bit. The last month was a lot of work. It was worth it, but I want a break.
