ovlovturbo
hello, i was wondering what model year to look for when it comes to the v70R AWD and the V70 XC AWD? i heard something about the 2002 auto trannies sucking, is there anything else to look for or years to stay clear of? thanks
Blockpartie
Depends on which generation you are looking for.First generation R AWD (1998-2000) or second generation (2003-2007) | First generation V70 XC (1998-2000) or second generation (2000-2003), renamed to XC70 (2003-2007). XC and R were always AWD in the US for these two generations. AW55 transmission was and to an extent still is problematic. Later 6speed auto (TF-80SC) is better but not as reliable as one might think. Changing the ATF is highly recommended as the "fill for life" means "until transmission fails". Early second generation XC still had the viscous coupling for AWD, second generation R and later XC have the better Haldex based system. Everything else will be the usual problems: throttle bodies failing (excl. second gen. R), ABS problems, wonky door locks etc.
ovlovturbo
ah ok, so really the second gen R would be a better bet? or even an XC70 2003 onwards?
