2005 S60 2.5T Shifter knob Removal

I have a 2005 S60 2.5T. Tonight when I got home, the shifter knob got stuck in park. The car will still start and everything else works. I read in another forum to align the pin behind the trigger, but when I tried this, the pin came out. I am trying to get the knob off so I can look at it and diagnose the problem. So I guess this is a 2 part question. 1) has anyone had this same problem with shifter stuck in park and how did you fix it, and 2) how do you remove the shifter knob? If answering, please be specific and if possible, pictures would be much appreciated. This is my daily driver and I need to get it fixed ASAP, thanks.

Shove a small screw driver between the boot and the bottom of the shift knob and pry the boot off. There is a little locking clip that secures the boot into the bottom of the shift knob, but once it's released, the boot will slide right off. Once the boot is separated from the shift knob, grab the knob with both hands and pry up hard in a jerking motion to break it free from the shifter assembly. To reinstall the knob to the assembly, slide it back over the shift rod and then pound it back down with your fix until it locks into place.

You probably need a whole new shift knob. I've seen the buttons come apart, quite common in my opinion. Also, make sure that your shift lock solenoid is working. If it isn't, check to make sure your brake lights are working. If the brake lights aren't coming on, the solenoid won't release to let you get it out of park.
