What about the scanner iPd carries? Will that work?

I will look up those Matty Moo thanks.

Fran I did try something that had an interesting result....

When I took out the boxes for an hour and put them back in  the light was on immediately. I swapped out the TCU for the S80 one I grabbed just to see what happened. I started the car and the light was not on. The arrow came on, then after about 20 seconds total the CEL was back on. Expected this, just wanted to see if a different box with a different memory would change the light's behavior or if the code was stuck in the ECU.

When I put my TCU back in the light was off for 5-10 seconds before it was stuck on again. Unless these things have slow memory, I consider that cleared... it's as if it found the code again.

8 days left to figure this out! Seems like plenty of time unless I end up having to make a dealer appointment.

Made progress... just not in the right direction.

Bought a nice scanner that specifically accesses and clears my trans computer. The CEL goes off for about 5 seconds then comes right back with the same code.

I don't understand. The sensor is there, plugged in, and NEW. And it DID solve the car's drivability issues! It drives perfectly! How can it tell me still no sensor signal when it's clearly getting one? The arrow isn't flashing anymore either so it is very obvious the sensor is good.

is the P0722 code also part of another circuit that could be broken? All I'm coming up with in research is bad trans speed sensor and bad ABS box, both of which I've replaced.

I don't expect anyone to be able to answer that, because the only problems I ever have with these cars are the ones no one has ever heard of.

Here's something someone else may actually know that could potentially help me-

When you clear your codes, does your car start, run fine for a few seconds then stall out, then refuse to start the second time? That's what mine does. Everytime I clear the codes it takes me 3 starting attempts to have the car stay running.

I'm not sure about the scan tool IPD carries, have never seen it. If it can read modules aside from the ECM like TCM, SRS, etc, then it should be able to clear the codes. If they don't clear, then you know you have a hard fault and problems lie elsewhere.

Fran the scanner I bought does directly access the TCU.

While it's not 'top of the line' it was $80 and definitely as nice as it needs to be unless someone were to need ABS codes. Bought it at Harbor Freight Tools. High enough model to have upgradable software when needed. Kind of a nice feature.

Matty Moo- technically he wasn't a dealer, but a small home operation, guy works for a dealer and buys their auction-ready trade ins, from what I gathered. He seemed to sell only American SUVs aside from this car, which I guess is a valid excuse for replacing a C70 speed sensor with the wrong one.....

I came across one of your old posts on MVS that mentioned di-electric grease on the large connector for the ABS module (if I read that right) so I'm going to try that today. I will also try it on the speed sensor connection, since I'm once again pulling the air box. I had some more luck with google by searching for a stuck p1618 code. it seems anyone who ever had a bad ABS box has had a hard time clearing this code. Even Midwest ABS says they are stubborn to get rid of, but didn't say how it gets done.

Cleaned contacts and used contact grease no help.

I'm going to a dealer Thursday. This is a very disappointing situation. I know that all cars cost money to maintain but c'mon.... 1st car that I've been forced to take to a dealer. Guess I should move closer than 2 nd a half hours to a dealer if I'm going to keep owning these.

$131 down and problem solved.

The issue was not really that the code could not be 'cleared' since the tech couldn't clear it either-

The trans computer had to be reprogrammed for the rebuilt ABS module, and it also received a software update for $25 (included in total cost).

I would assume this is the case with all replacement modules. Inspection time :)

They're feeding you a line if they're saying they have to reprogram the TCU because of a new ABS module.  99-2000 is plug and play all around.
