ovlovturbo
i tried to start the car today and it did the clicking as if the battery was slightly dead, so i hooked it up to the other car for a jump but nothing still did the same thing, then on the message indicator it said brake failure slow safely or something like that, i managed to get the code reader on it and it said clutch position sensor, then when i tried to start it again there was a loud clicking coming from the dash and now now dash indicator lights are on and it won't have anything work like the windows or the seats. the loud clicking is there when the key is in position II still. but nothing else is working, it ran fine a few days ago when i turned the car round in the drive way after i washed it, then i parked it and today nothing. about 180k on the odo just tried it again and now there is nothing, can't even get any of the lights inside to turn on, no dome lights nothing, won't jump from another car and instead of a clicking saodnd it was more of a whine sound
Fran9690
Get your battery tested. The clicking noise and warning lights coming on are all signs of a dead battery. Start there and see where it takes you.
ovlovturbo
ok, well would it not jump start when it was connected to a good battery? also the clicking/ticking was even when the car was not trying to be started and the key was only in position II. Chilled man
It could be a short to ground in the batterie and why it wont start. I had this issue with both of my cars this year but it was due to them sitting for 6+ months
ovlovturbo
so where and what should i look for?
Fran9690
ok, well would it not jump start when it was connected to a good battery? also the clicking/ticking was even when the car was not trying to be started and the key was only in position II. I've had cars come into the shop where the battery was so dead, that it couldn't be jump started. The clicking in position II could be that there is too low a voltage for the electronics to work and the relays are just clicking. I would still start with getting your battery tested. It's free if you go to any auto parts store, so it's also the cheapest route.

ovlovturbo
so if the battery is indeed dead, what should I get as a replacement battery?
Fran9690
Volvo battery. Or interstate, the make them for Volvo. Those are my preference.
ovlovturbo
is there a particular interstate battery that works well in these cars? optima is made by interstate right?
Fran9690
Whatever size fits and is correct for the vehicle. I've seen where too big of batteries are installed and the hold down doesn't fit over the battery anymore.
ovlovturbo
ok cool, thanks for the info, I will try and get the battery tested tomorrow or Monday, my work schedule makes it hard to get things done during normal business hours!
