German850R
Sure, Johann, it is above oil level and the welder did a great job. No warping, pan was heated in an oven to prevent that. Once the pan is off, I will post pics.
German850R
Forgot to take pics. Well, the thread was totally stripped. We milled off the 37° cone at the end and drilled and tapped a M14x1,5 in the rest of the bung. Then put a Dash 8 to M14x1,5 adapter in and connected a new return line. What I am not so happy about is that when the engine is off, the connection is just at oil level but given the 15° tilt of the engine the lowest point of the oil return is actually below oil level. So far it is working fine, though. No oil consumption and I figure that the 30° bend upwards that connects to the Dash 8 bung helps with that together with the height difference from the turbo down to the oil pan. Maybe not perfect but the best we could do now. Only better thing would be to weld a tight 90° pipe to the pan like TMM9 has. Drove the car for about 250km now, so far no issues apart from a coolant leak which was due to not perfectly tightened clamps. Will have an eye on that, though. How does it drive? Absolutely fantastic! I am still very careful with the throttle and am using basically the base tune from the 608 file with reduced turbo duty cyle and of course adjustments in fueling and ignition table and injector calibration as well as MAF adjustment. The car pics up throttle very pleasantly and the turbo spools up like it's nothing. I believe this will be an issue later on to keep it under control. Maybe a 4 port solenoid might come in handy with the right WG actuator. Will see. It's already very torquey even from 1200 rpm in 4th. This turbo for sure can bend rods even though it is quite large. The noise it makes is also quite menacing ;). Attached a screenshot from a log where I accelerate from 2500 rpm to show the immediate response. Have to fix my ABS to get a proper speed signal, though ;).
Tommy.
Awesome work!
German850R
Thanks, Tommy ;). Tried to take a video today using a steering wheel mount for my phone. Unfortunately, the phone mic sucks (Oneplus One). But you get the point of the pointless video anyway ;). https://youtu.be/opXQHG_Q5qU I am happy that my ABS controller finally works as it should and I have speed signal and ABS. German850R
As I might have mentioned, my custom full 3" exhaust drones quite a bit. At least I mind it doing it, so I want to do something against it. Recorded the driving noise with a high quality sound recorder and analyzed the recordings in our NVH department at work. Attached a picture of what is so noisy. Basically, my biggest problem is at around 120 Hz. In order to not introduce restriction in the exhaust, I need to carefully select my options. Right now, I tend to have a proper flex pipe welded into the downpipe in addition to the coupler that is already in there. If that doesn't change much, I might be looking at a J-pipe welded to the exhaust at a proper location with about 60cm length. That is 1/4 wavelength of the drone at 120Hz and will cancel it out (in theory). Should be fairly inexpensive to do if I find a good location for it. And on the plus side, exhaust flow is not affected at all. Any opinions?
volvoguy23
Hey there, not sure what your using already as far as exhaust (haven't went back an looked( but I'm running THIS right after my dp and it helped soooo much, this is actually all I'm running at the moment, sounds good too. Also free flowing resonator's like these will actually flow better then a straight pipe...fact! Highly recommend one, they make many smaller versions too. German850R
Technically these are not resonators in my book. I have 3 of those (different sizes though) absorbtion dampers. Flow is for sure nice, noise not so much, at least off boost. On boost it sounds like a dream ;)
