C70 manual

2003 would mean yours is a convertible as the coupe was cancelled in 2002. What we do know is that only 603 coupes worldwide had a manual transmission.  No idea on number of manual convertibles but I would assume a larger number since coupes were a minority of the C70s built.

Here are approximate production numbers:

no such car exists. they never made manual c70 convertibles EVER

Original post: Let me reserve a spot here to show otherwise.

There seems to be a lot of confusion when it comes to fine details about Volvos. Was option A ever available? If option A was available, could you have it with option B or option C? Could you have all options together? On which markets were these options offered? For this post I will try to show that the C70 convertible (first generation) was available with a manual transmission.

Short answer: Yes, you could have your C70 convertible with a manual transmission.

Long answer: Right from the beginning and until the end buyers could specify a manual transmission when ordering their C70 convertible from the dealership. Or to be more precise in most cases they had to specify that they wanted to have an automatic transmission because it cost extra. Various versions of the well known M56 were used for manual transmission cars, depending on the selected engine and which model year was current. Mostly because you wouldn't want long gearing for your 2.0T engined cars, that would take some fun out of their drivability.

For those that don't know what this picture is supposed to show I feel it necessary to explain it. I claimed that this picture shows a C70 convertible with manual transmission or to be more precise a "C70 Collection" convertible with manual transmission, something easily determined. The colour of the interior is called "Toscana Tan" - a colour only available for the C70 convertible and only for "Collection" models. The air vents have a silver central adjustment thingy which again was only available for "Collection" models, just like the silver handbrake release button that is barely visible. Oh and you can see the shift knob - a very important part for any manual transmission car that has a centre console mounted shifter - which looks very, very different from the gear selector for the automatic transmission. Please note the shift boot, a feature that takes up way more room than you might imagine. A better picture is embedded below:
