Willi5
Hey guys, I could really use some help. I have a 2001 V70 XC (automatic) with 210k+ miles on it. This summer it began to act strange. Sometimes when I was driving down the road the 'D' symbol for 'Drive' on the dashboard would switch to just be two lines (--) and I realized I was stuck in whatever gear I had been in, usually 4th. If I stopped the car, turned it off and started it up again it was back to automatically shifting fine. In the beginning few weeks this was rare, and it steadily worsened. By the fall I would only be able to drive about 30 secs to 3 mins before the auto trans wouldn't down-or upshift gears and the dash display just showed (--) for the drive mode I was in. The semi-manual shift option (where you could bump the stick + / - to shift "manually") didn't help, either. The last time I drove the car it seemed like the clutch was only engaged halfway, the engine was revving but I had no power going to the wheels. I could barely drive on level pavement but on the hill home there was no way to drive, either in Drive or Reverse. I had to get it towed home. Even now if my father and I start it up, sometimes we can drive across the yard before not being able to anymore. What's going on, and how can I fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. NEU
Your trans needs a rebuild. See the AW55 thread.
loseR99
You could get the codes read. If it wasn't having any shifting issues, could be the gear selector switch on the trans itself. It's called the PNP switch. But i'd first read the tcm codes.
Ihatespeedbumps
Will need to pull codes from all systems before trying to diagnose.
