Slater
I don't know why, but Volvo is teh first automaker I've ever heard of tha rivets on bumpers. Every other manufacturer uses screws, clips, etc.I guess they figured the average owner wuold not remove their bumper unless it was a body shop replacing it after an accident.Anyways, I will be removing my bumper frequently - to install HIDs, to change out my intercooler, to relocate the horns, install some fogs, and do other items.Do I have to use rivets, or can I use some nice SS screws or black body screws? They also make plastic rivets that are removeable. Like the screw type body clips, they are slim and small like a rivet and they head just pops up to remove the clip and clips down to snap into place.Has anyone tried using something otehr than the rivets?- Slater
jross
I painted of tiny (zinc-plated) bolts flat black, and used some equally tiny nuts to hold them on. Works great for me!
t5inAZ
I had this problem with my other car. After I used the screw idea, I found a set of rivets at Home Depot. They where near the staplers @ my HD.

But what I want to do is find a way NOT to use rivets, since every time you want to remove your bunper you have to drill out or cut off the rivets, do whatever you need to do, and reinstall the bumper with new rivets. If you do that 10 times over the course of the next year or so, you may as well buy stock in a rivet company.Screws would be much smarter and easier. Unscrew to remove bumper, screw to reinstall. Like the other 99% of cars on the road.- Slater

grocerygetter
Personally I love rivets, they never come loose and the volvo ones are a hybrid rivet made of plastic and aluminum which make them so easy to install. I tried using normal metal rivets but they did not work as well.

BlackT5
You won't need to take the bumper off to install HIDs, relocate horns, and probably not even when you install your fogs

Should work fine. Nothing hard about drilling rivets out though...
