Fran9690
So basically as the title says, I found the reason my radio in my 850R had no AM/FM reception was because the antenna cable was cut underneath the dash. Is there any repair that can be made to the cable or do I need to replace the whole unit from antenna to radio? Thanks in advance.
Burn-E
Why not just butt splice / solder the wires together?
Fran9690
Can that be done? I wasn't sure if there is a way to butt splice the wires due to it being a shielded wire and the center wire is not as flexible as regular insulated electrical wires. BEJinFBK
You'll need to do a little soldering - Get one of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MALE-MOTOROLA-PLUG-SOLDER-TYPE-70000-/9722380931?hash=item2437fc283:g:wpoAAMXQslhRkPKT Solder it to the existing cable. A little shrink tubing between the cable and the new connector will help with strain relief, insulate the ground and make it look better. And one of these to reach the radio from there: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-UNIVERSAL-MOTOROLA-CAR-STEREO-ANTENNA-EXTENSION-CABLE-12-STANDARD-CORD-/301095026636?hash=item461aa97fcc:g:iE8AAOxyVaBS-nYR Longer pre-made extensions are available if necessary.
