1998/2000 v70R parts swap

This is my first post on here so i'm hoping i'm putting this in the right topic.  I have two R's, a 98 and a 2000.  The 98 is in almost perfect cosmetic condition, but has seen a rough and fairly neglected 185k miles.  I bought it with a suspect head gasket, and aside from that it also needs almost every wear item replaced.  It rides/brakes/runs like crap.   On the other hand i have a 2000 R  that the tranny just went out on.  It has 150K miles and was dealer maintained/ repaired its whole life, ran and drove beautifully with the exception of the transmission.  Cosmetically its has seen better days with a lot of dings, dents, and peeling clear coat.

Anyways, my first inclination is to scrap the 2000 and swap all parts over to the 98.  I've done some research and everything looks pretty straight forward but I still have a few questions with my biggest concern being the motor swap.  It sounds like the 2000 has kind of a one off motor but is it worth putting in the 98, or should I just do the head gasket in the 98? From what i've read to get it to fit I just need to drill out the cam to accept the distributor, and use the 98' manifold with some port matching.  are the block and head castings similar, will all of the sensors fit into the new block and head?  Can I just unplug the cvvt on the head or does a plate need to be made?  Also, my main concern is how the car will run with the new motor including the bigger injectors and turbo.  Will I need to purchase a tune, or will it adapt okay?  I don't plan on modifying this car too much at the moment other then a RIP kit, hd cbv, and tcv.  Any info or useful links on the subject would be appreciated.  Sorry if i'm beating a dead horse with this subject.  Im trying to get all my parts collected before I start.

Also, Any other 2000 specific goodies I should swap other then the duel exhaust, turbo, injectors, and brakes?

Any maintenance items I should do on the motor while its out other then timingbelt, waterpump, and pcv?  someone had mentioned the oil pump seals maybe?

This has been covered many times.  You can swap the 2000 motor into the 98...  and it's not a "one off" motor."  It's just a model motor that is only used in that year car.

If it's cheaper, and you are scrapping the 2000.. use that motor in the 98.  If you are keeping both cars... repair the head gasket in the 98.

The 2000 motor needs slight modifications to the diameters of the ends of the cams... to accept the 98 CPS and cap/rotor assembly.  Aside from that... it's pretty much a bolt in affair.

Good luck.

Thanks for the replies.  I realized I should have been searching for "RN" swaps and not been using the exact motor designations.  I was able to find way more information.

How can I expect the car to run if I don't get a tune right away?  Would it still be fine as a daily temporarily if I use the injectors from the 98, or will the new motor just not run well?
