97 850 Cylinder Head - N/A

Gf's car burned a valve on the turnpike the other day. I did the valve stem seals a few years ago using Victor Reinz parts and it looks like most of them were allowing an egregious amount of oil to pass into the cylinders.

Looking for a non-turbo head with less mileage (her car has 242K) so I can get this thing back on the road. I'm not excited to do valve stem seals again, and will avoid it if I have to. :-)

I may be able to help. I have a 97 NA that's going to be parted in about a month, don't know if that's too long for you. Pm if interested

Probably too long, need the car out of the garage in a few weeks max unfortunately. Thanks though!

I have a good turbo head with new valve stem seals.... Just have to swap your cams..

What's the verdict on turbo vs. NA heads?  Are they a direct swap as long as I used NA cams? (Compression ratio and valves come to mind?)

EDIT: Ended up ordering a reman head from Clearwater this morning. Will update the thread if it doesn't work out.

Make sure to use the cam holding tool to install the head- a guy I trusted to do this job for my T5 screwed up and warped the Clearwater head by trying to do the job without the right tools.  I then had to use my original head and install new valves and guides before I was on the road again...several hundred, and I mean several hundred dollars wasted on that job.  No recourse either- it was a pissed off moment in my life...

Yikes!! That really sucks. Yup, I've got the cam and head tools in my garage. Too many Volvos in the family to not have them. :-)

The job went great and the car doesn't burn oil anymore. It runs so well at 243k we're having trouble justifying selling it now. The Clearwater heads are good stuff!
