RyanJohnRyan
I bought a 2001 S40 a few months ago and the stops were definitely a bit rough so I bought some used, but in very good shape, rotors from a guy who had recently totaled his same year and type volvo and installed the rotors with new brake bads. The question I have is that 3 of the 4 rotors that I removed did not have any screws in them like I have seen when I replaced rotors on other cars I have owned. Granted this is my first Volvo so I thought that maybe they didn't have the screws but when I removed the last wheel it did indeed have a screw (only 1 screw). I went ahead and installed the rotors without any screws but I am wondering if I should buy some new screws and install them i the rotors. Any opinions would be be great. Fran9690
The screw is only there to hold the rotor onto the hub for easier install when putting on the caliper and wheel. Not needed though, it has the studs so the rotor won't fall off. Once the wheel is tightened onto the hub, the rotor will straighten out and be put into place. It won't go anywhere. Lots have come into my shop with the bolt missing, there are also several brands that don't even use a retainer bolt.
RyanJohnRyan
Fran9690, thanks for the reply. Your response makes me feel more secure about the rotors. I had heard someone years ago tell me that those screws were mainly there for the assembly line but I still had my doubts. But now I won't worry about the screws at all. Thanks again for your time and your advice.
