ovlovturbo
hello, I have a 2002 s60t5 manual with about 180k on it and have noticed that there is a air pump noise coming from near the bottom of the engine, it can only be heard from either side of the front of the cat tight behind the front wheels, cant really hear it when you open the hood and listen from above. it also does not happen all th time. any ideas or suggestions? Fran9690
Doesn't have an air pump on your year. Could be the vacuum pump running for the brake booster that you're hearing, which is normal. Unless it's running all the time, which is not normal.
ovlovturbo
ah ok, the times i hair it are when i am outside the car and it is parked. i will double check but i don't think it runs all the time.
ovlovturbo
so it is a fluttering sound and it does stop after a while, not always on i guess
Fran9690
The vacuum pump is more so like a buzzing noise, never really heard a fluttering noise. Like a turbo flutter is what you're hearing?
ovlovturbo
not too sure actually, this is at idle when the car is parked, i can't really hear it when i drive the car, maybe it is an exhaust leak although that would be constant and not come and go.
