'99 S80 - Replacing ignition switch

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to replace the ignition switch in my car. I foolishly pulled all the wires from the pins without making note of where they go. I can't find a single picture or diagram for this model year either, so I'm turning to the forum in hopes you guys could help me.

I've got five wires here.

- red with a black stripe
- blue with a red stripe
- violet
- yellow
- yellow with a white stripe

Then all the DIN numbers on the switch they could go to are: 15, 30I, 15I, 30, 15A, X, 50, and S.

If anyone has a diagram or any pictures, that'd be immensely helpful. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

There are 2 plugs for ignition switches, a round one, for the earlier S80 and a square one for the later version.

Round plug:

When you pull the plug from the ignition switch, there is a pin that sticks out and goes into the switch, and it is flat on one side. orient the flat side so it it on the top.looking at the plug from the switch side, there are holes in the plug for the wires.

The red with black stripe gone in the hole that is about 10 degrees clockwise from the top on the plug when you are looking at the ignition switch side.-  terminal 30

The next wire clockwise is the blue with red stripe- terminal 15A

Next wire clockwise is the violet wire - terminal X

next clockwise is yellow with white stripe - terminal 50

finally, the yellow wire is on the very bottom, going clockwise, terminal S

Square plug - the latch is on the top. Looking at the plug where it goes into the ignition switch, you count the wires with 1 on the top right, going to 4 on the top left, and then 5 is on the bottom right, with 8 on the bottom left.

blue with red stripe is terminal 1

yellow only is terminal 3

red with black strip is terminal 4

violet is terminal 6

yellow with white stripe is terminal 7

In both cases, there are terminal holes that are not populated with wires.
